I have a spoiled rotten,10 yr old neutered male Shih Tzu, named Kuro. He's also blind, but still my sweet baby! Although it's only him and me now, there's a lot of talking around our house. I didn't realize he knows so many words! Some people say it's repetition, but I prefer to think he's that smart.......We moved to Michigan from Indiana 4 years ago, and for the first 7 years of Kuro's life, the only expense I had was vaccinations, grooming, and buying toys. ( Lots of toys) But time passes on and age starts taking a toll, and he started having problems: bladder, tumor on paw, liver enzymes too high, dental work, eye problems, and for the past few months, skin problems. Dr. Dhaliwal has done all of Kuro's surgeries, and worked with me on the other problems. He never loses his patience, and stays calm while I am asking my 100 questions . Dr. Dhaliwal is definitely in the correct profession. It seems he has a passion for not only helping animals, but he takes every opportunity to learn new techniques so he can help them even more. The staff is also very nice. They greet you with a smile, take the time to talk, explain meds, etc. and if Dr. D. doesn't call to check on Kuro after a procedure, the staff will, and that means a lot to me. Michigan Avenue Animal Hospital is a caring place, and everyone makes sure your pet is given the best care. Whatever it takes to make you and your pet "HAPPY!" Judi Perdue

Do I need an appointment? Yes. It is best to schedule an appointment so we can take the time necessary to properly groom your pet. Call for appointment. How long will my dog have to stay? The price for your puppy’s first groom depends on the breed, size and the type of hair your dog has. We have a special first time puppy charge for all dogs 4 months and under. When should my puppy have its first professional grooming? Grooming of your cute puppy should start at 10 weeks of age (after second vaccination). Why should I have my puppy groomed? It is a good idea to start your puppy on a grooming schedule as early as possible to get him/her used to the sights, sounds and smells of a grooming salon as well as being handled by a groomer. This alleviates stress and anxiety of visiting the groomer. Grooming becomes accepted by your dog as part of his/her life routine and he/she will enjoy the experience. Regular grooming creates a bond between the dog and the groomer and your dog will consider the groomer extended family. Once your dog is conditioned for grooming, regular grooming is required every 2 months for life. How old should my cat be to start grooming? We groom kittens as young as 3 months as long as they have all required vaccinations. Why should I have my cat groomed? It is a good idea to have your cat groomed when he/she is a kitten to get them used to being in water and handled by the groomer. The younger they are groomed the more accepting they are of being bathed and handled. How often should I have my cat groomed? It is a good idea to have your cat groomed every 2 months. Even though cats ‘clean’ themselves, they should be fully groomed to keep the ears clean and infection free, trim the nails and to remove dead skin and also remove excess hair to keep them from ingesting it to help prevent hair balls. Is it too cold to have my dog groomed? Many pet owners neglect to have their pets groomed in the winter. Why? Mostly what I hear is, "its too cold". It may be cold, but our pets still need professional grooming. Of course they can be left longer, even not trimmed at all during the cold months. But they always need a complete brush out and bathing that a professional can provide. Nail trimming and ear cleaning is a must all year round too. When clients let their pets go through the winter without professional grooming, their dog ends up coming in with their fur all matted, and then they need to be clipped very short. If you would like to keep your pets style, don't skip those winter visits to the professionals. Keep your pet in style and feeling great all through they year! How can I get my aggressive pet groomed? We first would try to have you present during the grooming process. If that doesn’t work then we will suggest giving sedatives orally before your bring your pet for grooming. Sometimes this doesn’t work either; in that case the last resort will be, our Veterinarian will give injectable sedatives having your pet partially or completely asleep for the grooming as per needs of groomer. We do recommend blood test to evaluate kidney and liver before Does my dog or cat need to be current on its vaccinations before being groomed? It is required to have your pet vaccinations current, since they are in an environment where there are a lot of dogs present. They can contact contagious disease from each other.

I would like to truly thank Dr. Dhaliwal and his entire staff for their professional veterinary expertise in caring for my dog Mandy. From the moment I walked into the office, I was comforted and reassured that my dog could recover from her affliction.
Mandy previously had surgery at another veterinary hospital for the removal of a growth on her hind leg. For some unfortunate reason, the area became badly infected that the doctor's opinion was amputation to save Mandy's life. At first, I was devastated about this news and wanted to get a second opinion. Therefore, I began seeking other veterinary hospitals that specialized in this area. However, for some reason Michigan Avenue Animal Hospital would constantly reappear on my list. I began to read the testimonies from his previous clients and suddenly a peaceful feeling came over me. Even though Dr. Dhaliwal's hospital was a great distant from Detroit to Ypsilanti Michigan, it was worth the ride. Mandy's outcome was the same, yet the calming and patient manner in which my dog and I were given from Dr. Dhaliwal and his loving staff made a difference. Today, Mandy is still running, climbing and playing even with three legs and I am thankful for the time and quality of life I still share with her. Crystal Matthews August 2012 |
